The North Bay Journal reached out to get our insight into the state of commercial building and trends in 2025. Seven North-Bay commercial contractors were included in the coverage, including our Commercial Contractor Joe Meylan, Mike Ghilotti, and Seth Maze of GMH Builders.
The article spans a wide range of topics. There is a general consensus that there is a labor shortage. The industry is also experiencing an age and experience gap, with younger contractors emerging, but not enough to fill the shoes of retiring experts.
Supply chain and material costs have been a concern, and items take a lot longer to arrive. Uncertainty has had a negative impact not only on materials, but also on building owners, who may want to move forward with a project, but are considering waiting for the tariff upheaval to settle. Joe Meylan noted that Capital Improvement projects have generally been put on hold considering the impact of tariffs on the cost of materials.
